Modelling land use patterns at the forest edge: Feasibility of a static spatial model

چکیده

A model is proposed that will allow forest and land use policy options to be explored in a repeatable, objective and quantitative way. Construction and use of the model should lead to a better understanding of spatial and temporal land use patterns. It will provide detailed spatially-explicit data on a range of parameters to enable rigorous testing and offer insights for further development. The model is based on the assumption that land use patterns ultimately are shaped by individuals who make rational decisions based on available information, obligations and expectations (social as well as economic). Since these decisions are rational, they, and the resulting land use patterns, can be modelled and predicted. In making these decisions, individuals balance the anticipated returns and risks, and individual strategies (i.e. emphasis on profitmaximization or risk minimization) reflect status and security. Important inputs to the model include spatial (land tenure, topography, soils), social (demography, clan obligations, cultural traditions), and economic data (crop yields, market prices, transport costs). Land use is not an input to the model, but the model can predict spatially-explicit land use patterns. Thus land use predictions may provide a robust way to test the model. The model can be implemented in a hierarchical way, so that it can operate at the village, provincial or national scale, with the detail of inputs and outputs varying accordingly.

Detecting and Modelling the Trend of Change in the Forest Land Use in Garasu Watershed Area Using Landscape Metrics

Detecting, predicting and quantifying the trends of landscape pattern change in the forests of Gharasu watershed area are necessary so as to assess the crises or prevent them. To this aim, the land use maps belonging to the years 1987, 2002 and 2018 were classified through the maximum likelihood method, and the forest area changes were estimated. Then, through the Geomod model and the forest ch...

The land use changes study and precipitation-runoff modelling using HEC-HMS, Case Study: Babolrood basin

Abstract Change in land use pattern influenced hydrological processes in basin and disrupt the normal balance of water flow. In the present research, hydrological parameters change of Babul Rod watershed basin has been that investigated concluded of land use changes in 1988 and 2009. To determine land use changes of Babul Rod watershed basin we has recruited TM satellite images 1988(1367) year ...

کمی‌سازی تغییرات الگوی مکانی سیمای سرزمین در زیستگاه سیاه خروس قفقازی (Tetrao mlokosiewiczi) در ذخیرگاه زیستکره ارسباران

Large scale land use/cover changes and habitat fragmentation have been associated with the decline of many wildlife populations in ecological sensitive regions. The main goal of this study was to quantify the spatial pattern changes in Caucasian Black Grouse habitat in Arasbaran Biosphere Reserve, Northwest of Iran in a period of 24 years (1987–2011). Caucasian black grouse (Tetrao mlokosiewicz...

Air temperature estimation based on environmental parameters using remote sensing data

This study is aimed at estimating monthly mean air temperature (Ta) using the MODIS Land Surface Temperature (LST), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), latitude, altitude, slope gradient and land use data during 2001-2015. The results showed that despite some spatial similarities between annual spatial patterns of Ta and LST, their variations are significantly different, so that the...
